Description

The lasermarks on this $5 Indian Chief Silver Certificate's blade and handle were lifted from the front and back of the series 1899 US Bill. Production took a total of 15 hours to complete for both the front and back of the handles and blade with the majority of time 14 hours just in the laser work on the blade itself.

Easily on of the most beautiful bills ever produced, the 1899 $5 Indian Chief is the only piece of United States paper money that solely features a Native American. These bills were printed up until 1920 and rare with an "Uncirculated" bill selling for 600% to 1000% face value.

The clip on the handle has the design from the center of the reverse of the bill. This was slightly modified to conform better to the clip and prominently features the "V" found in the center of the bill. The rest of the original design used on from the bill was left unchanged. The blade is etched with the left hand side reverse of the bill "5" and "FIVE" with surrounding scroll work filigree on both the front and back of the blade. How this blade ended up exactly as it did with so many colors remains a mystery yet to be solved but likely was the result of the complexity of the design and how close the laser ran the pattern in certain areas.

This blade is not coated or painted. Much like a tattoo that you might get that will not rub or wash off. The very slow process used to mark a blade like this goes deep into the surface of the metal in any color that you see. However unlike a tattoo it will change color depending on what light and angle to the light it is held in. It's really quite amazing to look at. Suffice to say the colors you see here in the picture are just what the flashes used in the photo studio and camera decided it looked it - and they are fairly accurate representation of what you would see under any light source.

Also note this knife started out its journey as a Protech TR4 manual with a stonewashed finish blade. The button is for unlocking the blade only this is not an automatic knife. Additionally three of these knives were completed in December of 2015. Each blade is completely unique in terms of color due to their slight distance difference from the laser as they were run together for a total of 21 hours time then turned over and run for another 21 hours.
